Books on Photography

I’ve been reading a few books on photography lately that hopefully will help me improve my photo skills, and just to learn more about other great photographers. Here’s a few that I’ve read this past week:

Annie Leibovitz at Work by Annie Leibovit
This book is awesome if you’re a fan of Annie Leibovit’s work. The book details some of the production and story line of some of her most famous photographs, like the Demi Moore pregnant photo, the John Lennon and Yoko photo, and many others. Great book if you’re into her photography.

A Photographer’s Life: 1990-2005 by Annie Leibovit
I wasn’t as impressed with this book as much as I was with the previous one, Annie Leibovitz at work. I was hoping to see more of her professional work, which is so good, but I should have paid more attention to the title. In that sense, this book delivers as it portrays many of Annie’s personal photographs of herself and her family, which is what the book is supposed to be about. If you’re looking for her professional body of work, you might want to skip this one.

I really enjoyed this photography book by Scott Kelby. I’ve read a few other books on using photoshop in the past, and they never got past the most basic tools that photoshop has to offer, but this book by Kelby is very good. He outlines step-by-step instructions on how to improve the photos, professional sharpening techniques, and other great tutorials on over and under exposure. I’d get it if you’re looking to improve your digital photography skills.
