I think the biggest challenge as a photographer is connecting with the person you’re photographing. If you can do that, if you can create a connection between you, the camera, and the subject, then I think the photograph will be inspiring. Part of that connection is shooting the eyes of the person. It’s amazing to see, but many portraits that I look at don’t ever focus on the eyes of the subject, and perhaps that is the photographer’s style, but to me, unless you’re focusing on the eyes, it’s very difficult to capture the essence of an individual.
I love photographing people. It’s becoming more and more apparent to me that shooting portraits is probably one of my stronger traits. And when I think about that, there’s really nothing I’d rather photograph more; it’s the people that matter. And I could easily see myself in a studio simply shooting brides all day, because then you can connect with them and capture a part of them that will last on a photograph forever.

Thanks so much for the comment, Jenny. I’m not use to photographing kids, so I’m pretty pleased that she stood still long enough for me to take a couple of photos.
I think her eyes in that top one are so amazing; there’s such a depth and inquisitiveness about them.
