I’ve been reading quite a bit on Chan Buddhism, and while reading, I came across an idea that seems to me to be quite liberating: there is nothing you need to do, and there is no where you need to go.
This idea is such a contrary notion in our American, pragmatic philosophy where everything is merely a tool towards linear progression. It strikes a clear chord against the constant noise of modernity. What if you really don’t have to accomplish anything? What if there really are no goals that need to be attained?
